For our first installment we are focusing on a Jewish wedding tradition that is one of our most requested items- CHUPPAHS!
Pronounced "hoo-pah," a Chuppah (also spelled Huppah, Huppa, or Khupa) literally means "covering" or "protection" and is a canopy under which a bride and groom stand during a Jewish wedding ceremony. The Chuppah is constructed by four posts that hold up a covering and is meant to symbolize the home that the couple will build together once married.
Traditionally, the Chuppah was a stretched textile tapestry held up with four wooden poles, today however, modern couples put their own creative touch on Chuppahs by customizing the structure using materials such as flowers, branches, tulle, bamboo stalks, wooden beams, wrought-iron, acrylic and Lucite, patchwork quilts, driftwood, fruit, and almost anything else you can think of to construct a Chuppah that speaks to their one-of-a-kind tastes and personalities.
No matter what your wedding theme or location, we can design and construct a beautiful custom Chuppah that honors both the centuries old tradition as well as your own unique style.
